One of the perks of being wedding photographers in Gloucestershire is the plethora of beautiful venues on our doorstep; another is the amazing couples we have the pleasure of working with. Both of those things came together for Lizzy and Kieron’s wonderful Stone Barn wedding in the Cotswolds!

Stone Barn wedding venue

Black and white wedding photographs

Stone Barn wedding venue is – as the name might suggest – a gorgeous old barn on the Gloucestershire-Oxfordshire border. It’s a hidden gem, completely secluded from other buildings, which means you get uninterrupted views of the rolling Cotswold Hills. The venue itself is jaw-dropping too, with a luxurious yet rustic feel.

The main barn was the perfect setting for Lizzy and Kieron’s ceremony, with its mega romantic stone walls, high ceilings, huge windows and flickering candlelight. They then decamped to the Dutch Barn, illuminated with fairy lights strung across the roof, for the drinks reception and meal.

Springtime colour palette

With such a gorgeous venue, the decor that Lizzy and Kieron needed for their Stone Barn wedding was minimal. Instead, they leant into the rustic vibes of the venue as well as the season. As they got married in April, they chose a fun, warm colour palette to make the most of it, with Lizzy’s six bridesmaids setting the tone in dusky magenta dresses.

However, the star colour for the day was undoubtedly orange (which I just don’t think you see enough of in weddings – more orange, please!) Lizzy and her bridesmaids’ bouquets were a mix of wild green foliage and white and light pink stems, studded with bold orange focal flowers.

This pop of bright orange also featured not only in Kieron and his groomsmen’s buttonholes, but also in their suits, with orange detailing from the pocket squares all the way down to the buttons on Kieron’s waistcoat and jacket (ten out of ten for attention to detail!). Meanwhile, Lizzy was a vision in a two piece top and skirt from Catherine Deane, and an orange-toned lipstick and earrings to complete the look. (We can neither confirm nor deny whether Kieron dyed his beard to match the colour scheme.)

Again, Kieron and Lizzy kept the reception decor simple, with garlands of foliage decorating the tables and the cake table, where they had not one, not two, but three cakes. As their place settings, they slotted little polaroids of each guest into a tiny log slice, and grouped them by table.

Good vibes and garden games

I think it’s fair to say that Lizzy and Kieron will go down in history as one of the happiest brides we’ve ever had! From the very start of their Stone Barn wedding right through to the end, Lizzy was joy personified. You can see how happy she was in the photos, never not laughing – even as, for example, she got tangled up in her veil and her dress as she got out of the wedding car.

It’s fair to say their 80 guests shared this joie de vivre, too, getting well into the spirit of the day with garden games and beer buckets atop heads!

Golden hour portraits

We mentioned the stunning scenery that you get with a Stone Barn wedding above, and what kind of wedding photographers in Gloucestershire would we be if we didn’t make the most of that for golden hour? As the sun set we took Lizzy and Kieron out for a stroll around the nearby country lanes for some portraits infused with sun and warmth.

Then it was time to head back to the barn for the first dance. What I love about this spot in particular is that when darkness falls and the spotlights are on, it almost looks like the courtyard of an Italian villa! With the stone walls and greenery artfully hanging over the dancefloor, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was outdoors.

As they had throughout the whole day, Lizzy and Kieron brought all the fun to the dancefloor, officially kicking off the evening with their first dance.
