Elegant monochrome Kingscote Barn wedding for Harlie and Josh | Dreamy Gloucestershire wedding venue

A bride and groom walking through a beautiful field with sheep at Kingscote Barn.

10 years ago, the idea of a barn wedding might have conjured up images of something super rustic, with lots of hessian – but Harlie and Josh’s Kingscote Barn wedding was a totally different kettle of fish.

Elegant, sleek, monochrome and chic – they brought serious glamour to the Cotswolds, and we were so happy to be the Gloucestershire wedding photographers who got to capture it.

Monochrome colour palette

Harlie and Josh opted for a minimalist, monochrome colour palette for the day, using black and white as their main colours. (And as wedding photographers who love black and white so much that we deliver full galleries in black and white alongside colour…that is RIGHT up our street.) This included their bridesmaids, who were all in black, whilst Josh and his groomsmen dressed to the nines in full tuxes – altogether, they looked like they’d just swanned off a red carpet.

Even the flowers followed this epic colour palette, with white stems acting as the accent colour to pop from the greenery.

Kingscote Barn wedding venue

There are two gorgeous spaces for a Kingscote Barn wedding ceremony: outside, or in the Barn itself. Harlie and Josh chose to have their ceremony indoors, within the gorgeous Cotswold Stone walls and underneath the beautiful vaulted ceiling of the Barn.

A beautiful indoor ceremony

Both ends of the aisle were decorated with beautiful boughs of greenery and flowers, including the door that Harlie entered through and the balcony at the front of the room, where Josh and Harlie said their I dos. Then, once they’d signed the register, they walked back down the aisle through their loved ones and a cloud of very on-brand black and white confetti!

Drinks hour

After the ceremony, the newlyweds joined their guests on the lawns outside for Pimms and drinks outside. One of the many gorgeous things about a Kingscote Barn wedding is the views; the barn is set in the heart of its own secret valley (as you do!), with 400 acres of the rolling Cotswold Hills around it. This makes for the perfect surroundings as you catch up with your loved ones, and a great backdrop for photos. The sun even came out for us, which was extra lovely!

Another element of this Kingscote Barn wedding drinks reception which we thought was genius was the entertainment that Harlie and Josh had booked. They’d booked the wonderful Matthew Bee, a.k.a. The Cotswold Wedding Guitarist, a.k.a. a.k.a. The Jukebox Guitarist. This means the guests got to choose their songs from the ‘jukebox’ sign, which was a really fun twist on the traditional cocktail hour. Whilst their guests were mingling, we whisked Harlie and Josh off for a few photos around the grounds of the barn.

Barn wedding reception

During the drinks hour the brilliant Kingscote Barn wedding team had turned the Barn around, changing the ceremony setup into an elegant reception space. On the left hand side of the circular door flanked by two round floral arches, guests were greeted with the three-tier wedding cake, finished with black and white macarons, truffles, flowers, and a gold drip.

The long top table ran alongside one side of the room with round tables opposite, which all featured black table runners to help it all tie in with the colour scheme. For the favours, each guest got a pin badge from Cancer Research to thank them for a donation made in their name.

At each seat guests were also given two drinks tokens, which they could use at the cocktail bar that Harlie and Josh had fully stocked with all of their favourite drinks.

Golden hour photos

As Gloucestershire wedding photographers, we love to make the most of golden hour whenever we can. Luckily we were served a lovely golden hour, so we took Harlie and Josh for some more portraits in the wheat field nearby. Don’t they look incredible?!

Dancefloor mayhem

Finally, it was party time! Alongside the epic dance floor (with music provided by Kieran Clarke, who we chatted to on the blog here), Harlie and Josh also had a photobooth, as well as a neon sign saying Let’s Party, which provided even more excellent photo opportunities.
