Elegant boho wedding at The Gathering Barn, Wiltshire

A man and woman, captured by a talented Wiltshire wedding photographer, stroll hand in hand along the scenic path leading to the enchanting Gathering Barn.

Charlotte and Jack got married in a gorgeous boho ceremony and reception at The Gathering Barn. As documentary wedding photographers, we aim to take photos that show not only how amazing the day looked but how special it felt, too, and this was particularly important for this day, which was filled with lots of gorgeous personalised details.

The Gathering Barn

We were so excited when we heard Charlotte and Jack were getting married at The Gathering Barn. Situated on the rolling South Wiltshire Downs, it’s a stunning venue in lush surroundings. Plus, it’s perfectly suited to couples wanting to personalise their day. For example, every Saturday wedding gets 4-day exclusive hire from Thursday to Sunday – which means you can set up exactly how you want to, without a mad panic!

Burgundy boho theme

Instead of a more rustic barn theme, Charlotte and Jack decided to bring elevated boho vibes to The Gathering Barn. They accented the neutral staple boho colours in the pampas grass, wood and stone with warm pinks and burgundy, which looked incredible – especially in Jack’s burgundy velvet jacket (his groomsmen – two of whom we took to calling “the boydguards” because they were so tall they towered over him – wore tuxes).

It goes without saying, of course, that Charlotte also looked incredible in her off-the-shoulder white lace dress. Her bridesman Michael is a hairdresser, responsible for Pixie Lott’s hair amongst other celebs, so she had her hair done by one of her besties on the morning! He and the bridesmaids, who wore burgundy dresses, walked down the aisle before Charlotte, who walked down to the sound of her friends, all in floral dresses in different shades of pink, serenading her. It was a surprise to the guests, and extremely moving to everyone in the room.

Jack met her at the top of the aisle alongside their son, Teddy, who made an extremely cute, superhero-obsessed pageboy. Both Charlotte and Jack wrote their own vows, so the ceremony was super emotional, and once they were officially declared husband and wife, it was time to rehydrate outside with a refreshing cup of Pimm’s.

An elegant afternoon tea

The dinner decor continued on the upleveled boho theme, with pink pampas grass hoops and rose gold candelabras on the table giving The Gathering Barn an elegant but exciting feel. At the table, each guest had a vinyl record as a placemat (music is super important to Charlotte and Jack as a couple – you’ll see more in a minute!), and trays of sandwiches and scones were served family-style for guests to munch on. Jack had organised for a bottle of champagne with a special message on to be placed in front of Charlotte’s seat, as well as a “Mrs Case” apron, which she wore throughout the meal.

The bar for the day was mega, served from a vintage bus parked outside; this also made a great photo location for the bridesmaids later on.

Music makes the world go round

You might have already guessed that music was important to Charlotte and Jack through a couple of details we’ve mentioned so far: her friends singing as she walked down the aisle, the vinyl record place mats, and the cardboard cut-out of Dolly parton that was on the vanity as she got ready (ok, we didn’t mention that so you probably didn’t know about it, but it was pretty great, and we thought you should know. Better late than never, hey?)

Well, that’s because Charlotte is a singer! After their cake cut (where they pulled some hilarious faces) and their first dance, which was super high-energy and so much fun, Charlotte kept the party GOING by treating their guests to a tribute to Dolly Parton. In fact, her and Jack both sang, with their loved ones whooping and cheering around them.

Other evening entertainment included a roving caricaturist capturing the guests, a Jenga guestbook, and a time capsule, where guests could write messages for Charlotte and Jack to open on each anniversary. The evening food was also catered by the Cosy Kitchen, who opened up a gyros stand outside. Can you think of anything you want more after a spin on the dancefloor? We can’t…

As the evening drew on, we took Charlotte and Jack away one final time for a few more portrait photos, this time in the fields surrounding the barn. We loved every single moment with these two during the day, but perhaps our favourite was one that we managed to capture right at the end, where Jack took a photo of Charlotte on his phone. They were both so happy and so in love – it was a total joy to be a part of.
