As Somerset based wedding photographers, we’re lucky to work all across the South West, but there’s something especially magical about a coastal wedding in Devon. Suzie and Jack’s beautiful August celebration had everything we love about relaxed seaside weddings,  incredible views, summer sunshine, and a couple whose love for the water shaped the entire day.

Set at a stunning coastal venue overlooking the sea, Suzie and Jack’s wedding at Watermouth Cove was a perfect reflection of their personalities. They’re happiest by the beach, whether it’s swimming, water sports, or simply soaking up salty air, so choosing a venue with sweeping coastal views felt completely fitting.

A Laid-Back Start by the Water

The day began in the most chilled way possible. While preparations were underway, Jack and his groomsmen kicked things off with a swim in the venue’s pool, a brilliant way to shake off any pre-wedding nerves and fully embrace the holiday feel of the day. With the sun already shining and the sea glistening in the distance, it felt more like a dream summer getaway than a wedding morning.

This relaxed energy carried throughout the day and set the tone for what was to come.

An Outdoor Ceremony with Coastal Views

Suzie and Jack’s ceremony took place outdoors, overlooking the Devon coastline, with the sound of the sea gently in the background. The August sunshine showed up in full force, bathing everything in warm light and giving the ceremony an effortlessly romantic feel.

There’s something incredibly special about outdoor ceremonies by the coast, the openness, the natural beauty, and the sense of calm they bring. Guests were fully immersed in the moment, taking in the views as Suzie and Jack exchanged their vows surrounded by friends, family and fresh sea air.

A BBQ Wedding Breakfast & Summer Celebrations

Following the ceremony, everyone came together to enjoy a relaxed BBQ wedding breakfast. Long summer afternoons, good food and laughter are a winning combination, and this was no exception. Guests mingled outdoors, drinks in hand, enjoying the sunshine and coastal surroundings while the celebrations unfolded naturally.

As a photographer, these moments are a joy to capture, candid interactions, genuine smiles, and that unmistakable glow that only a summer wedding can bring.

A Bride’s Speech to Remember

One of the standout moments of the day was Suzie’s speech. Personal, heartfelt and full of warmth, it had everyone completely engaged and added a really special layer to the celebrations. It’s always lovely to see traditions turned on their head, and this speech was a beautiful reminder that weddings should be as unique as the people getting married.

Sunset Portraits That Stole the Show

As golden hour approached, we slipped away for sunset portraits, and wow, what a highlight. The sun dipped low over the sea, painting the sky with soft pastels and fiery tones, creating the most incredible backdrop.

The sunset shots were truly out of this world and a real highlight of Suzie and Jack’s day. With the coastal landscape stretching out behind them and the last of the sunlight wrapping everything in a warm glow, these moments felt calm, romantic and completely timeless.
